Milton Mentoring

The Milton Mentoring Program is a collaboration between the Milton Family Community Center, The Milton Town School District, and MOBIUS, The Mentoring Movement. Three mentoring programs are thriving in the Milton Community. The Howard Center for Human Services' Community Friends program has over 20 years of experience in mentoring, adhering to top mentoring programs guidelines, and is a member of the National Mentoring Partnership and the Chittenden County Mentoring Network. Community Friends is a one-on-one out of school time mentoring program. Everybody Wins! Vermont is a literacy mentoring program during the school day with mentors meeting with their mentees once a week for reading and conversation. Dream, is a site based mentoring program with college students from Champlain College. This program is linked with residents in Birchwood Mobile Home Park and meets once a week. Activities are planned throughout the year for all of the mentoring programs.

Milton Family Community Center

The Milton Mentoring program strives to promote the healthy development of young people by matching them with caring adult volunteers in one-to-one friendships. The program serves children (ages 6-14) in the Milton area from one or two parent homes that are interested in being involved with the program and who need extra attention and support due to stresses in their lives. Volunteer mentors are responsible, caring adults who enjoy children and can spend time with a child on a regular basis for at least a year. They are people who want to enrich their lives and their community while sharing fun and meaningful times with a child. (Please contact each organization individually if you are interested in being a mentor or are interested in having your child matched with a mentor). Volunteers are carefully screened, trained, and supported by professional staff to ensure a mutually fulfilling relationship. A host of mentoring activities, newsletters and on-going educational opportunities are provided through this program.
